Board Giving Policy
Pour Into Foundation Board Giving Policy
Board members lead by example. Here is how our give-or-get commitment works.
- Purpose
- Board members lead by example. 100% board participation in giving shows donors, grantmakers, and sponsors that the people closest to Pour Into Foundation are invested in its mission.
- Annual commitment
- Each director shall give or get a combined total of at least the board-approved minimum each fiscal year (January 1 to December 31).
- Personal gift
- As part of the commitment, each director shall make a personal financial contribution each year, in an amount that is meaningful to that director.
- What counts toward “get”
- Donations from individuals, businesses, or foundations the director solicited or introduced
- Sponsorships the director secured
- Grants the director helped obtain through a direct introduction or relationship
- Net proceeds from fundraisers the director organized
- In-kind donations of goods or professional services at fair market value, if approved by the Treasurer
- What does not count
- Reimbursable expenses a director waives, volunteer time, and purchases of goods or services by the Corporation from a director’s business.
- Credit
- Each gift is credited to one director only. When directors work together on a gift, they agree in advance how to split the credit.
- Timing
- Commitments are due by December 31. Directors are encouraged to share their giving plan with the Treasurer by March 31.
- New directors
- A director who joins mid-year has a prorated commitment for that first year, based on the months remaining.
- Tracking
- The Treasurer tracks progress toward each director’s commitment and reports overall board participation at each regular meeting. Individual gift amounts stay confidential between the director, the Treasurer, and the President.
- If a director falls short
- A director who expects to miss the commitment should talk with the President or Board Chair before the deadline. Not meeting the commitment, without an arrangement, may be considered at the director’s reappointment.
- Adoption and changes
- The Board adopts this policy by resolution and may change the commitment amount by majority vote.
